Aldenham School was founded in 1597 and has remained on the same outstanding 135 acre site ever since, surrounded by green fields yet only 12 miles away from London.
Aldenham is a small school with a strong boarding ethos and a reputation as a close knit, small and supportive community that makes it the very best environment for a high quality all-round education. The particular blend of academic achievement, sport and activities available to all, strong individual care and support, and the happy purposeful family atmosphere to be found at Aldenham is appropriate for many boys and girls and is welcomed by many parents.
At the heart of Aldenham is the House system which creates an extended family and provides the formal and social focus of the school. Three boarding and three day houses, each with around 60 pupils, a Housemaster, his family and a team of tutors offer the flexibility of Day, Dayboarding and Boarding options. Class sizes are small, few larger than twenty, with time every week for monitoring meetings with tutors. A new Technology block incorporating extended computer facilities opened recently to be followed by a new music building and Astroturf hockey pitch. The school boasts a magnificent Sports Hall, Fives Courts and updated modern study bedrooms.
Achievement of academic potential remains central but the building of confidence comes equally from participation in sport, music, drama or other activities. Younger boys spend time every afternoon, each week within the extensive Games and Activities programme. The length of the day reflects the opportunities and support available and enables all pupils to get much more from their working week.
More than anything life at Aldenham prepares pupils for life beyond school: not merely the enjoyment of the fruits of academic achievement or the rewards of creative talent, but the benefit of having learnt how to shoulder responsibility, understand the skills of leadership and value the concept of teamwork.
